Villiers appoints former transport aide as special adviser

Environment secretary Theresa Villiers has appointed Saratha Rajeswaran, a Conservative Party insider and a public affairs professional, as her second special adviser.

Rajeswaran last worked for Villiers when she was junior transport minister in the coalition government, having previously been a political adviser for Theresa May in the shadow cabinet. 

She has held a number of roles in the world of public affairs and think-tanks, with stints at public relations company Edelman, Portland Communications and Policy Exchange, the centre-right think tank with ties to the Conservative Party.

In 2017, she joined the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry as the head of government affairs, saying in a statement following her appointment that she was “looking forward to working across Westminster and our devolved nations to secure the best possible environment for maintaining and growing our world-leading pharmaceutical industry in the UK.”
