The Environment Agency's pollution performance in five charts

Serious pollution incidents rose 23% between 2017/18 and 2018/19, but some of the rise may be attributable to last summer's heatwave conditions, according to official data.

The regulator this week published its latest quarterly scorecard, providing data showing how it is performing against its objectives. It shows that the agency is performing strongly against many measures, but has rated the regulator's performance as "red" against targets to reduce serious pollution incidents and numbers of high-risk illegal waste sites.
