Dump private cars to meet net zero, say MPs

Years of government delays, cut-backs and undermined decarbonisation policies have put the UK far off course to meet its legally-binding net zero emissions goal, says a House of Commons committee.

In a report published today, the Commons' Science and Technology Committee expressed its concern that the government does not have the policies in place to deliver the net zero target by 2050. It has offered some radical solutions in response.

Among the more eye-catching is that, in the long term, widespread personal vehicle ownership is incompatible with significant decarbonisation.
