EA to carry out review of end-of-waste quality protocols

The Environment Agency has announced a review of the 13 'quality protocols' governing when certain waste streams, having been fully recovered, may be regarded as a non-waste product.

In a briefing note issued earlier this month, the agency said that it would review all 13 of the current protocols - covering waste materials such as compost, glass, aggregates and non-packaging plastics - over the next 12-18 months.

The protocols govern when the waste streams cease to be waste and may therefore be used in specified markets without the need for waste regulation controls.
