How Natural England is seeking to reduce its reliance on grant funding

Natural England, hoping for a funding boost in the upcoming spending review, is seeking to diversify its sources of income to reduce its reliance on government grants. Catherine Early reports

Natural England, which has already seen its budget slashed since 2010/11, is grappling with further cuts to its government grant. Treasury estimates have revealed the nature regulator will only receive £66.4m in direct funding from DEFRA in the current financial year, down from £82.2m in 2018/19 – a drop of 19.2%.
