The coming weeks and months are likely to have far-reaching implications for our environmental protections, and the agencies responsible for enforcing them.

The prospect of the UK crashing out of Europe at the end of October without a deal remains very real. Much has already been said about the risks to the UK’s environmental safeguards posed by a no-deal Brexit. But for some environmentalists, the admission from prime minister Boris Johnson that the laws and regulations to deliver environmental protections will “potentially diverge” from those of the EU after Brexit has further raised the threat level.
