North of England to bear landfilling brunt in no-deal Brexit scenario

The waste industry has warned that northern England and some areas in the Midlands could become a burial site for waste originally destined for energy-from-waste (EfW) plants in Europe in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

The industry has already raised concerns that increased custom checks in the event of a no-deal would lead to three to six months of severe disruption at ports, where it would be unlikely that waste exports would be prioritised over exports of other items such as  food.
