Council frees up Chilterns AONB for development

A Chilterns council has adopted its local plan after an inspector recommended the release of 12 sites from an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for new development.

Wycombe District Council signed off on its local plan, at the end of last month, greenlighting the development of up to 11,899 homes up to 2033.

Because two-thirds of the district sits within the Chilterns AONB, the council has allocated 12 sites for housing and employment within it, after the inspector concluded that the council had assessed the sites on a "clear, logical and justified basis".

An AONB is land protected by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 to conserve and enhance its natural beauty.
