Regulator investigates Cuadrilla fracking earthquake

The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has written to fracking firm Cuadrilla requesting “extensive data and analysis” after a 2.9 local magnitude tremor was felt at its Preston New Road site last week.

Cuadrilla, which has repeatedly called for seismic safety limits on fracking to be eased, this week apologised for the event - the largest to be associated with fracking so far in the UK.

The oil and gas explorer also said it would repair any damage to nearby homes that it assessed to have been caused by the seismic events.
