DEFRA forced to review gamebird impacts on EU sites

The government has announced it will review the way in which the release of gamebirds on or near European protected sites is managed following legal action brought by Chris Packham’s legal outfit, Wild Justice.

In July, Wild Justice issued legal proceedings  against the government over its alleged failure to assess the ecological impacts of pheasant and red-legged partridge releases on or near legally protected special protection areas (SPAs) and special areas of conservation (SACs), as required under Article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive.
