Deregulatory thrust for pollution control rules

A second round of consultation on a wide-ranging overhaul of the rules defining how and which processes are regulated under the two pollution systems introduced by Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 was initiated by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 10 December.1 The net effect of the proposals is deregulatory, although some processes will be brought into the regulatory net for the first time.
