FGD arrives - but future SO2 control policy remains uncertain

The UK's strategy for cutting acid gas emissions has taken a major step forward with the commissioning of flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) equipment at two power stations. But National Power and PowerGen are opposed to further FGD retrofits - and future emissions policy is in flux as the generators wrestle with their fuel mix and the uncertainties of the electricity market become ever more apparent.
