‘Total tosh’: Leadsom trashes Labour 2030 decarbonisation target

Business secretary Andrea Leadsom has rubbished Labour’s commitment to decarbonising the economy by 2030, calling it “total tosh”.

Speaking at the Conservative Party annual conference on Monday, Leadsom said Labour’s pledge was “utterly unachievable”.

In June, the UK became the first major economy to agree a legal target to release net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, but the government has faced criticism for failing to outline how it will be achieved.
