Government plans carbon reduction targets for new homes from 2020

The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has proposed that starting next year, all new homes must be able to demonstrate carbon reduction savings of 31% over the life-span of the development.

In the government’s Spring statement, a “future homes standard” was put forward, effectively ending all fossil fuel heating systems in new houses from 2025. The standard is part of the government’s attempts to meet its legally-binding target to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, which was enshrined into law earlier this year.
