EA exceeds own target for waste packaging checks

The Environment Agency (EA) checked the legitimacy of 136 individuals working in the packaging recovery note (PRN) system in 2018, beating its own target by 17%.

According to the EA’s monitoring and enforcement report, published today, the EA monitored 136 people during the 2018 calendar year, against a minimum target of 116.

To put this into context, public register data shows there were a total of 5,993 registered entrants in the PRN system in 2018.

The EA said its monitoring activity led to the suspension of 32 accredited reprocessors and exporters, the cancellation of two exporter accreditations and the rejection of nine accreditation applications in 2018.
