Challenge to post-Brexit habitats rules judged premature

DEFRA will continue to interpret the Habitats Directive in the same way as it does now after Brexit, according to a commitment given to the High Court.

The case stemmed from concerns about the changes to the way that the directive is transposed in the UK. The Conservation of Habitats and Species (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 added provisions that concerned ClientEarth and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).
