Government’s ‘road to rail’ plans boosted after freight interchange given go-ahead

The Northampton Gateway strategic rail freight interchange has been given planning consent to promote a “modal shift of freight from road to rail”.

The interchange was signed off by the transport secretary yesterday in line with the Planning Inspectorate’s recommendations. 

As the project falls under the Planning Act 2008, it is considered a nationally significant infrastructure project (NSIP) and so required a development consent order (DCO) from the secretary of state.
