SEPA overhauls compliance team to become ‘phase two’ regulator

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has completed a restructuring of its ‘Compliance and Beyond’ team, aimed at tackling modern environmental concerns such as climate change.

“Our regulation will be quicker, more efficient and more effective,” said a spokesperson, with simplified administrative processes and more effective enforcement. A new resolution function has also been created, to deliver time, skills and senior leadership to settle problematic issues.

The organisation met its aim of completing the restructuring of the 270-strong team by the start of the month. It includes the agency’s enforcement, permitting and legal functions, with some roles transferred from regional to national level.
