Atkins appoints new chief executive

Engineering consultancy Atkins has appointed Richard Robinson as chief executive of its UK and Europe region, responsible for leading its 10,000 strong team and operations across a number of markets including transportation, infrastructure and building.

Robinson was previously chief operating officer at HS2 and has also held senior leadership roles at consultancy AECOM, BAA Heathrow, and mining firm Anglo American.

He will join Atkins on 4 November 2019 and will be based at the company’s European headquarters at Nova North in London.

Robinson said: “A business with the skills, capability and track record of Atkins presents clients and colleagues with a world of possibilities in a rapidly transforming digital market – I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

Schemes in the Atkins portfolio includes the Dawlish Warren flood management scheme; Kincardine floating offshore wind farm; the science innovation centre at the University of Edinburgh; and Coed Darcy sustainable village.

Earlier this month, Atkins appointed a new lead for environmental practice, Dr Vicky Hutchinson, across the UK and Europe.
