In June, parliament approved an amendment to the Climate Change Act 2008, which put the UK on a legally-binding path to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The government this month also published the Environment Bill, which if enacted would enshrine many of its nature recovery ambitions in law, including the establishment of Nature Recovery Networks.
Each member will “be essential in helping Tony Juniper as the new chair drive ambitious plans with the senior leadership of the organisation,” according to the job advertisement.
They are expected to be able to share their “experience and enthusiasm for the natural environment, be able to work collaboratively and in partnership nationally, as well as locally, with stakeholders and staff alike,” the advertisement adds.
The regulator is particularly keen to hear from applicants with a background in business leadership, the law or national and local government on planning and infrastructure.
If successful, the new board member would be expected to commit roughly three days a month to Natural England for a payment of £328 per day.
The application process will close on 14 November with an announcement due in February 2020.
