New waste fine - total payout £12,800

Storing almost a hundred barrels of hazardous waste, failing to keep documentation and other breaches of permitting exemptions has cost a Sunderland man a fine of £2,000, with costs of £10,800.

Description of offence: Operating without or other than in accordance with a permit, contrary to regulation 38(1) of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016, treat, keep or dispose of waste in a manner likely to cause pollution of the environment or harm to human health, contrary to section 33(1)(c) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and failing to make and retain making and retention of documents, contrary to sections 34(5) and 34(6) of the act.
