Software failure costs Total £36,000 for ETS error

Oil and gas company Total E&P has paid a five-figure sum after an error crept into one of its offshore platform’s greenhouse gas emissions calculations.

The penalty was issued under regulation 41 of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Regulations, which governs how companies must surrender emissions allowances for each installation covered by the EU emissions trading system (ETS).
