Environmental impact standard launched

A new international standard to help organisations evaluate their environmental impacts and dependencies on natural resources has been launched by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

ISO 14007, Environmental management – Guidelines for determining environmental costs and benefits, is intended to help clarify which environmental measures and strategies are economically sound for an organisation, based on a natural capital approach.

Natural capital is a measure of the natural world and its impact upon people, which can then be accounted for with a monetary value of the benefits they bring.
