Waste plant sees off judicial review over environmental permit

Campaigners fighting plans for a £450m energy-from-waste (EfW) plant have lost a Court of Appeal bid to block the development.

NGO Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator (BACI) confirmed on social media yesterday that it had been defeated in its attempts to overturn the permit for the Rookery South EfW plant, which is being developed by US-based firm Covanta Energy and the UK-based Green Investment Group.

BACI appealed after the High Court ruled last year that the Environment Agency (EA) was right to award the project an environmental permit in January last year.
