Labour manifesto: 17 green policy pledges

The Labour Party's election manifesto, published this morning, includes a series of pledges to crack down on polluters and billions of pounds of investment to bring about a “green industrial revolution”. Here's what you need to know

1. A net-zero-carbon energy system within the 2030s

The manifesto pledges to put the UK on track for a net-zero-carbon energy system within the 2030s – “and go faster if credible pathways can be found”. “We will deliver nearly 90% of electricity and 50% of heat from renewable and low-carbon sources by 2030,” the manifesto states. It adds that a Labour government would “aim to achieve net-zero-carbon food production in Britain by 2040”.
