‘No time to waste’: Labour sets out £250bn ‘green industrial revolution’

The Labour Party has unveiled its general election manifesto with a pledge to invest £250bn in green industry and environmental protection as part of plans to create a million ‘green jobs’.

“We can no longer deny the climate emergency; we can see it all around us,” Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said in a speech in Birmingham to launch the manifesto. “We have no time to waste. The crisis demands swift action.”

The manifesto builds on many of the pledges already made by the party, including plans to expand the UK’s offshore wind capacity massively, ramp up a nationwide energy efficiency scheme for all homes and phase out petrol and diesel cars by 2030.
