Speaking at a conference on biodiversity protection in London yesterday, David Baldock, senior fellow at the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), said there is a “lack of clarity around where the UK is going”, once the UK leaves the EU.
Baldock is concerned that the proposed green watchdog as set out in the Environment Bill - which has fallen although could be brought back by the next government - does not have a strong enough compliance function, rendering it weak and ineffective.
