General election: What the waste sector thinks about the party manifestos

Political party manifestos indicate that “radical changes are on the horizon” for the waste sector, according to waste trade body the Environmental Services Association (ESA). ENDS has compiled the sector’s reaction.

1 The Conservatives

“Given the announcement of the Environment Bill prior to the general election, and the work done to date on the Resources and Waste Strategy, there are few surprises in the Conservative manifesto, published yesterday, for the recycling and waste sector,” said Jacob Hayler, ESA’s executive director. 

However, the document is specific in setting out a new proposal to ban plastic exports to non-OECD countries, he added.
