Climate off the table in US trade deal, leaked report suggests

A trove of leaked documents appears to confirm that the US is refusing to discuss climate change provisions in a post-Brexit free trade agreement (FTA) and is pushing for weaker controls on pesticides.

Brought to attention at a press conference held by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn this morning, the 451 pages are records of discussions held by the ‘UK-US Trade & Investment Working Group’ from July 2017 to July this year. He had earlier held up blacked-out versions during his first televised electoral debate with Boris Johnson, where the prime minister denied they proved the NHS would be on the table.

The full papers tell “a very different version of events [where] our NHS is up for sale,” said Corbyn.
