England's deteriorating wildlife in 3 charts

Data released by DEFRA yesterday reveals a rapid decline in the condition of important species and habitats protected under the EU Habitats Directive.

Across the UK, almost half (46%) of all important habitats and species are in unfavourable condition, according to the department’s revised biodiversity indicators.

Most of the indicators were published in September, but DEFRA added more detail on the state of nature for 2019, showing that things have been getting progressively worse.
