Southern Water investigating desalination and water recycling plants

Southern Water is investigating building desalination and water recycling plants in an effort to tackle dwindling water supplies, according to its new water resources management plan.

The water company, which serves an area in serious water stress, said securing new water supplies for Hampshire in the next ten years is one of its biggest challenges.

In order to protect the region’s unique chalk streams the River Test and River Itchen, the firm said it had “agreed changes to the amount of water it can abstract from them” with the EA.
