Villiers holds seat, Goldsmith gone following big win for Conservatives

Environment minister Zac Goldsmith has lost his west London seat to Liberal Democrat Sarah Olney following the best general election performance by the Conservative Party since the 1980s.

Goldsmith attracted  41.2% of the Richmond Park vote, with Olney gaining 53.1% in the tightly marginal seat.

It is better news for the other members of the DEFRA ministerial team, who have all been returned to House of Commons.

Environment secretary Theresa Villiers held on to her Chipping Barnet seat with 44.7% of the vote, narrowly beating Labour’s Emma Whysall who took 42.6%.
