Wales delays action on ‘unacceptable’ agricultural pollution

Welsh environment minister Lesley Griffiths has said the government will delay implementing regulations addressing agricultural pollution that were meant to come into force in January 2020.

Griffiths announced last week that she will make a decision in January on what form the regulations will take, pending further consultation, but stressed that they “will not be voluntary”.

She added: “I will be considering advice from officials in January on the introduction of the agriculture regulations following further engagement with the Wales Land Management Forum sub-group.

“I want to explore further if there is a way we can provide farmers with the flexibility to achieve these essential environmental outcomes in a way that is best suited to individual businesses.”
