Hazardous chemical labelling breaches revealed

Almost half of products containing mixtures of hazardous chemicals do not carry warning labels required under EU law, the European Chemicals Agency said on Tuesday, as its latest enforcement project found yet more evidence of industry non-compliance.

Washing and cleaning products, paints and air fresheners were among 3,391 products tested under ECHA's sixth REACH regulation enforcement forum (REF) project, this time looking at classification and labelling obligations.

Inspectors in 29 countries targeted 1,620 companies and found more than two out of five were found to be in breach of EU regulations, with 44% of mixtures marketed in contravention of at least one aspect of EU law,
