Cuadrilla again breaches permit at Preston New Road

Fracking company Cuadrilla has again breached its permit conditions at its Preston New Road site near Blackpool after failing to follow the protocol for methane monitoring.

Under the site’s permit conditions, Cuadrilla had to inform the Environment Agency (EA) before using its targeted methane monitor, which can be moved to measure emissions at different points on the site.

However, the company failed to inform the EA that it was deploying the monitor between 29 August and 6 September. Nor did it review the data collected within 48 hours of the end of the monitoring period because of a problem with the mobile network.
