Policy changes that need to be on your radar in 2020

With the UK set to formally leave the EU at the end of this month, fundamental changes to environmental policy and legislation are on the cards. ENDS checks the policy radar to identify what you need to prepare for in the coming year.

On the calendar of forthcoming environmental policy and legislation in 2020, one date stands out: 31 January, when the UK is scheduled to leave the EU, entering into a transition period set to last until 31 December 2020.  

The potential ramifications of Brexit for environmental professionals are far-reaching, with a hefty body of new legislation set to return to the House of Commons. The government’s efforts to develop a new body of environmental law for after EU exit day will continue to be the subject of intense scrutiny and debate as 2020 gets under way.
