Brussels ready for ‘unprecedented new partnership’ with UK on climate action

The EU is prepared to forge an “unprecedented new partnership” with the UK after Brexit that would encompass climate action, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has pledged.

Speaking this morning at the London School of Economics, von der Leyen said the UK could sign up to “partnership that goes well beyond trade and is unprecedented in scope”, including “everything from climate action to data protection, fisheries to energy, transport to space”.

Von der Leyen, who unveiled plans for a ‘European Green Deal’ before Christmas, argued that a Europe-wide approach to addressing climate change would still be necessary even after the UK leaves the EU.
