£23,000 bill and suspended sentence for illegal waste site

A waste manager has been handed a 12-month jail sentence for running an ‘out of control’ waste transfer station in Cornwall and banned from working in the waste industry.

The firm he worked for has also been made to pay more than £21,000 at a hearing just before Christmas.

Adam Wilcott was in charge of the Highgate Services Ltd site at Trevol Business Park, formerly operated by local company, Wilco’s Waste Management Ltd. Its permit allowed the acceptance of various non-hazardous waste such as construction waste, packaging, wood and household waste, to be sorted for re-use, recovery or disposal.
