EA clarifies waste collection rules

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued two regulatory position statements explaining how it will regulate the collection of waste in shopping malls and multi-tenanted office blocks.

Generally speaking, the storage and treatment of waste requires an environmental permit to be in place. Part 5 of Schedule 3 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 specifies exemptions to this rule, allowing the temporary storage of waste where it is produced, “at a place controlled by the producer” and collection points.
