Environment minister Zac Goldsmith takes up House of Lords seat

Former Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith has become a peer in the House of Lords and will continue his ministerial work at DEFRA and the Department for International Development (DfID).

Goldsmith, who lost his seat in the House of Commons in December’s general election, officially entered the House of Lords on Monday, taking the title Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park, the name of his former constituency. 

An update to Goldsmith’s official government profile has added biodiversity to his DfID portfolio, alongside his responsibilities for climate and environment, Caribbean and overseas territories and procurement policy.
