Jail for woman who absconded from illegal landfill sentencing

A woman who failed to present herself for sentencing after allowing a vast quantity of soil and rubble to be dumped on her land in Kent has been jailed.

Lucy Mete, 27, owned part of Thirwell Farm, near Faversham, which her father James and sister Billie used as a landfill site. She also lived there. But after the trio failed to turn up for a six-day trial at Maidstone Crown Court in March, the jury found all three guilty of operating a regulated facility in without a permit, contrary to regulation 12(1)(a) of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010.

Warrants were issued for their arrest.
