Former CDP director appointed UN climate champion

The former executive director of NGO the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Nigel Topping has been appointed by the government as the High Level Climate Action Champion for UN climate talks, COP26.

In a statement released last week, the government said Topping would help drive action from businesses, investors, organisations, cities and regions on climate change and coordinate this work with governments and parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The champion role was created in 2015 at the climate talks in Paris to help realise ambitions to lower carbon emissions and build resilience to climate change. The next UN climate change conference, COP26, is to be held in Glasgow in November.
