What are BAT conclusions?

Best available technique (BAT) conclusions are mandatory standards that facilities must meet. They form a major component of BAT reference documents (BREFs), which are produced by the EU’s Joint Research Centre under the banner of the Industrial Emissions Directive and are used by regulators to determine environmental permit conditions for different types of facilities.
