Green standards after Brexit: Will the UK adopt the Ukraine model?

As the UK and EU prepare to begin negotiations on their future relationship, environmental groups have stepped up their campaign to ensure that green protections are enshrined in law after the end of the Brexit transition period.

One phrase above all stands out: non-regression on environmental standards, which campaigners have urged lawmakers to include in the Agriculture Bill.

At a domestic level, however, it may not amount to much: given no parliament can bind a future parliament, a non-regression provision could simply be repealed later on.
