EDF applies for controversial licence to dredge and dump Hinkley Point C mud

EDF has applied to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) for a new licence to dispose of dredged material from the Bristol Channel into the sea off the coast of Cardiff.

The disposal is part of the second phase of controversial works to remove sediment from the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station construction site off the Somerset coast and dump it off the coast of Wales.

NRW says it will determine whether the sediment, up to 600,000 m3, is suitable for disposal at sea but will first assess the suitability of the sample plan “to inform any future licence application for its disposal in Wales”.
