Net zero emissions must be designed into infrastructure, say government advisers

Measures to ensure that infrastructure projects contribute to the government's aim of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 have been included in a new design guide published today by advisory body the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC).

Design Principles for National Infrastructure was developed by the commission’s expert design group and covers four areas – climate, people, places and value - to guide the planning and delivery of major infrastructure projects.

On climate, the document says that such projects must contribute to the government’s aim of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner.
