Former Brexit secretary tipped for DEFRA top job

Stephen Barclay, the secretary of state at the now defunct Department for Exiting the EU (DExEU), is being lined up to replace Theresa Villiers in a cabinet reshuffle expected this week, according to reports.

Barclay lost his cabinet job at the end of January following Downing Street’s decision to wind down DExEU, but is almost certain to be rewarded for his work in the Brexit negotiations with a new position. 

The Huffington Post reported on Friday that the former Brexit secretary is being tipped to move to DEFRA, noting that his technical knowledge will likely prove useful in a department that is hugely affected by Brexit.
