Villiers and Leadsom gone in Johnson’s first major reshuffle

Environment secretary Theresa Villiers and business secretary Andrea Leadsom have both lost their cabinet jobs in the first major reshuffle of the new government.

Both had been widely tipped to be in line for the sack, with Downing Street reported to believe they had underperformed in their roles. 

Leadsom, who had served as business secretary for six months, confirmed her sacking via Twitter, saying she would “now look forward to focusing on my constituents and on my 20+ year campaign to see every baby get the best start in life”.
