Council demands independent monitoring for incinerator emissions

An Essex council has demanded that pollutant emissions from a planned energy-from-waste plant be subjected to independent third-party monitoring.

Writing in response to the Environment Agency’s consultation on a draft environmental permit for the Rivenhall waste management complex, Braintree District Council noted that it had made “numerous objections” to the development since 2008. Its history is particularly complex, leading to a clash between the 58 metre stack specified in its environmental permit and the 35m one described in its planning consent.
