1 Plastic packaging tax moves forward
The Budget confirms that the government will introduce a new plastic packaging tax from April 2022 to “incentivise the use of recycled plastic in packaging and help tackle the scourge of plastic in the natural environment”. The rate will be set at £200 per tonne of plastic that contains less than 30% recycled plastic, it says. A further consultation on the detailed design and implementation of the tax has been launched today alongside the Budget.
